Slow and Easy Wins the Race

By: Christine Davis

Hair is a reflection of our inner selves. It's something we take pride in. For many, it's a canvas, our crowning glory - it greatly affects our self esteem, attitude and actions. In my 10 years of doing hair my motto has always been "slow and easy wins the race". Meaning, don't rush the process and don't force your hair into something it's not meant to be.

If someone has a been coloring their hair a dark brown for a long period of time and wants to be platinum blonde in one session, I am honest and let the client know the time and investment it will take to achieve this color. Sometimes it can take several appointments to get the desired look depending on the condition of their hair. My job as a stylist is to be real about what it takes to get that "Pinterest" picture perfect look, all while keeping the hair healthy. One of my favorite stylists to follow on Instagram regularly posts about her appointments that take 4-5 hours to get her client to an icy platinum blonde. What are those pictures are missing? The behind the lens effort it can take to achieve those results. Try to keep in mind that the perfect hair in your inspiration photo probably didn't happen over night.

But don't despair! If you don't have the time or wish to make the investment to get "that" look, a simple highlight, color gloss or lowlights can still do wonders! We as stylists are here for you and will help you feel beautiful. Just remember, slow and easy wins the race!
